POINTERS ON PROPER FORM Tuesday September 25th, 2001
Faulty technique in this sense becomes particularly evident when skiing on frozen snow. The skis’ tails tend to sideslip, thus making turns much more difficult. Your outer arm would enter your line of sight throughout the entire turn.
Such an imperfection can be corrected in several ways. Try controlling your inner arm so that it’s always pointing in the turn’s direction; this will also aid in maintaining ideal upper body posture. Practice this movement until you can execute it while still skiing smoothly. Through trial and error you’ll learn to stop rotating during the second part of the turn. Grasping the poles bicycle-handle style is a good preparatory exercise.
