CHOOSE THE RIGHT SKIS!
Tuesday September 25th, 2001

When practicing descents, never focus on corrective exercises. Skiing implies countless little features that, when added together, determine the smoothness and efficiency of your technique. If you’ve been skiing with poor rotation form for several years, try using skis that are softer especially at the tail: this will allow you to ski without having to go overboard with proper form. The skis will adapt to the curve without forcing you to take up unusual positions, provided you don’t overbalance.

Try to concentrate your weight and the centrifugal and centripetal forces in the skis’ centre. Some minor adjustments are allowed (such as bending slightly backward) but will work only on fresh snow or over flat terrain.

If you’re planning on getting some new equipment, I strongly suggest that you choose it according to your skiing technique. Also, have a go at the trial tests organized by ski manufacturers. Don’t expect the best equipment to take care of your imperfections: there’s the right pair of skis for every skier. You can take my word for it!
